...sad topic...

Sometimes i'm feelin sorry for myself for living in my contry *so unpatriotic*

i'll try to write something good... but my english isn't perfect...

25/10/2006 there will be conference or something with president... for a week all people can ask questions by phone, sms and massages in this site ! The most interesting questions will be answered!
well, i don't believe!!!
I also ask a question.... here is summary:
The priority project for Russia now is mortgage loan... if i'm right in banking terminology....
i have good salary... about $500... i think it is rater big for Sochi
So i cant afford to by a 2-room flat, because it costs more then $100000
For example, in the house on the picture (the beautiful one! 18-storey house) 2-room flat costs from $220000... depends on the storey....
anyway.... if i ever desided to take a mortgage loan and buy a flat not_in_the_center and not_in_good_condition -- costs about $100000 -- i would be for it 135 years!!!
loan charge - 14%
sad... i'm very sad today....
oh, i'm sure that president will never answer my question.... authorities in Russia love to answer questiond, which were prepared for the by their deputies!!!
i forget to write about renting a flat... renting of 2-room flat csts $550 - more then average salary!!
i wish i were a bird living where i want....

i live here all my life and get used to all this national qualities.... but sometimes i can be grumbler ;)

Dear Ann, I totally understand your sadness. I know this problems very well in Hungary we had very similar circumstances couple of years ago. Maybe you would ask your president how they use the enourmous amount they get for the oil and gas what Russia sells nowdays? Maybe they could spend it on people...

Thank you for the insight and for sharing so much with us. Well in a way, you can at least "visit" a lot of other cities through your fellow DP bloggers. Maybe one day you'll also be able to buy that flat when you Google or Microsoft discovers you! Hang in there! (and your English is excellent!)

In the US, housing prices are based on public demand, and they rise and fall based on the general economy, and the ability of people to pay. Location also has a major impact on price. In a city like Washington DC the farther out from the main areas you are, the less expensive housing becomes. Basically you trade mortgage payments for commute time. I know of a number of people who live in West Virginia and commute in 2 hours, but the same house is around $200,000 US less expensive in WV.

We moved to Delta to take care of my Mom when she had cancer, and the company I work for, AOL, graciously consented to allow us to move to Delta permanently and I now work remotely for them. We have a house to sell in Virginia, but once we do that, we will build something in Delta. The beauty of this is that the cost of housing is much less in Delta, so we will be able to build exactly what we want for far less money that we would need to spend in Virginia.

I think I was 27 when I bought my first home, and the bank made me sell my new car before they would loan me the money. We had decided that my wife would stay home with the kids, so a second income was out of the question. We sold the car, and tightened the belt. It was tight for many years, but slowly, things got better.

As I got more experience, my salary increased, and I was able to better afford the things we needed and wanted. Back then, we wanted to live in western Colorado, but the economy would not support that move, so we lived where the jobs were. That was 18 years ago, and now we do live in Western Colorado, and I don’t need to live off the local economy.

I guess what I am saying here, is do not get discouraged. God has put certain desires and goals in your heart, but they will not necessarily come to pass in your timeframe. Be patient, stay the course, and aim high! You will do well!

well... prices are based on public demand here too... but Russia has one unique feature: there is no middle class... there are only really rich people and those who can only earn for living...
in the house on my photo all flats were bought before advertising started!
Prices are griong fast - 8% per month - so rich people buy 3, 4, and more flats and houses....
everithing is just profitable business!
p.s. about the picture - i take it while i was in traffic jam through car window

I guess I consider myself middle class, but I am not really sure we have the same definition. When you say “those who can only earn for living”, are you saying that most people earn enough to pay their day to day living expenses, but are not able to save, or are you saying they don’t really make enough to pay their day to day expenses, meaning there are no “good paying” jobs? Do you consider rent or a mortgage payment to be a part of the day to day living expenses?

I am not trying to be insensitive, but I would truly like to better understand the situation you are describing. Too often, catches phrases like “middle class” mean different things to different people. P.S., thanks for opening up on this post.

i'll try to explain...

when i say that they earn only for living i mean, that they can buy food, clothes... education is free here...
lots of families doesn't have their own flats... they live with parents, ets. so its common when 5 people live in 2-room-flat...
its hard to make any savings, because everything is very expensive... inflation is about 11%... taxes are very high...
oh... about taxes... government alvays say, that taxes in Russia are among the lowes in the world - 13%! but there are a lot of masked taxes (i don't know how they are called in english). finaly people pay much more that 13% of theis salary...
there are “good paying” jobs, but you can be hired there if you are a son/ daughter or a lover of boss!!!
the chance to be hired somewhere by professionalism and knowleges is small.
for example: 1)son of N.Patrushev (Head of Federal Security Service of Russia) is deputy manager in Rosneft! 2) son of S.Ivanov (Minister of Defence) is deputy manager in Gasprom!

Do you consider rent or a mortgage payment to be a part of the day to day living expenses?
Russian government/presedent ets. don't think so!!!
Minimum living wage in Russia (according to the law) is from $100 to $200 - depends on region...
but utilities expenses for 2-room-flat can be more than $100
i don't know hove goverment count such level...
AND AVERAGE PENSION IS $50!!!! How can all this people with power (i meam president, ministers and others) sleep well at night?!!!

Bill, if you have more questions, feel free to ask :)

wow that loan charge is super steep, I think our lending interest rate now is at 5.5% - I like that you have a picture to show of the cost for the two room rate in that building and another picture of the birds to end your post - very well written - I've read about the oligarchy - hope I spelled that right, and the challenge for the common person who is not so lucky to have been able to take advantage of the economy during the separation of the soviet union - it doesnt seem right that the government can allow for such disparity in the economies of two social economic classes - I hope things will get better!

Ann, oh, so many of us around the planet wish we were a bird that could fly away to our dreams! It is so hard to be in a position like this. You have many who know this feeling. Hey, are there any such things as foreign mortgages? Could you find a lender outside your country at a better interest rate? Here in the USA mortgages are still around 7%, but back in the late 1980s they were 15%-18%. Wishing you change in the economic cycle that will enable your longings to be met.

Thank you!
I don't think there is a chance for foreign mortgages... maybe in Moscow, but not in other cities...

Kala
i too hope that it will be better...
to have such disbalanced society is profitable for government...
they have interest!!!
oh, i don't know how to explain it in english...
in russian it iis called "rolling-back" = "otkat"
if government lobby through something, they get some benefits from those who needs their lobby...
hm... at least something like that...

the separation of the soviet a groupe of people get as much money, as was possible... it wasn't just luck...
banks were founded for particular people where they can get 700% interest... manufacturing facility were sold for chickenfeed... i'm too tired to explain all this...

but, back then, mafia denude the business... but now police is much more dangerous and police do things like mafia at the beggining 1990's
